Unlike a traditional Modeling Objective live deployment, a sandbox deployment is ephemeral and meant to be used for testing. As a result, sandbox deployments are not subscribed to a production or staging release channel and can be created directly on a model submission to a modeling objective.
You can create a sandbox deployment when submitting a Model Asset to an objective, as well as directly in the Sandbox tab of the model submission page in a modeling objective.
We recommend using sandbox deployments to validate whether a new model submission is successfully able to launch as a Modeling Objective live deployment and that it behaves as expected before releasing the model as staging or production. This validation can help to quickly identify bugs and errors and reduce the risk of releasing a faulty model.
Auto-shutdown
Sandbox deployments must be configured with an expiration time, after which they will be shut down. These expiration times are used to ensure sandbox deployments are not left running by mistake, which can be expensive. By default, expiration times are enforced as less than a week from when a model sandbox is created. However, you can always modify or extend the expiration time if necessary by adjusting the configuration in the Sandbox tab of the model details.
