20 - Layouts: Saving

This content is also available at learn.palantir.com ↗ and is presented here for accessibility purposes.

When you save an exploration, you save its filter parameters and its chart layout. You can also, however, save the layout independently of the exploration. In this final step of the tutorial, you’ll update your saved exploration and then save your layout as an independent resource in Foundry. Unlike explorations, saving layouts does not also save the current filters. Think of a layout as a mask you can apply to different underlying data.

🔨 Task Instructions

  1. Remove the acquisition date filter by clicking the “x” on the filter item in the search bar.
  2. Click the blue Save button to update your exploration to the current set of filters and layout. Your exploration has been updated!
  3. On the left side of the screen, just to the left of the Compare ▾ button, click Layout of... ▾. Then select the blue Save current view button.
  4. Enter a recognizable name and brief description.
  5. Choose whether this layout should open with the Explore or Results perspective.
  6. Select a save location by clicking on the folder icon to the right of the default save path. Remember that others will only have access to this layout if they have the Viewer role on the location where it is saved.
  7. Determine whether you want to set this layout as your default view for the [Example Data] Aircraft object type. As stated in the documentation, administrators can also choose to set the layout as the default view for all users exploring the [Example Data] Aircraft object type.
