14 - Saving and Retrieving Your Exploration

You’ve been building your exploration all along, and now it is time to save it. The key distinction between a List and an Exploration is that while the former is static, the latter is dynamic. It saves the search and filter parameters rather than a list of specific objects.

The process for saving lists and explorations is nearly identical, and so the instructions here are brief. Refer to the "Creating and Saving Your Object List" lesson if you need a more in-depth account of the save process. You can also consult the product documentation for additional support.

🔨 Task Instructions

  1. Return to the original tab in the Object Explorer application where you had been building your exploration (hint: it may be the left-most tab at the top of your screen).

  2. Select the downward-facing arrow next to Save at the top right of the screen and choose Save as new..., then choose Exploration.

ℹ️ If you make changes to your search configuration and filters (and layouts, which we will discuss next), you can re-save your exploration by selecting Save from a saved exploration. You can also update the sharing parameters by selecting Share located next to Save.

  3. Step through the process of naming and saving your exploration into your personal folder within the Temporary Training Artifacts project as previously described.

  4. Once you have saved your exploration, select the ⊕ New exploration tab at the top of the application screen.

  5. Just as you chose the Lists ▾ dropdown menu in the previous exercise to load a saved list, select Explorations ▾ in the top right of the app to locate and load your saved exploration. It may take a few minutes for your newly-saved explorations to become visible in this search.
