📖 Task Introduction

In your next chart, you want to visually compare flight times on this route by airline carrier on a line graph. You also want to provide your users with a way to apply a carrier filter that will affect other notional downstream calculations or visualizations, including this line chart. To do this, you’ll need to create and use a parameter.

Parameters are an important way to introduce interactivity into your calculations and visualizations.

🔨 Task Instructions

  1. Near the top center of your screen, click the ❞ String category button from your analysis toolbar.

    • You may need to close your configuration panel to find the button (or locate it in the ... menu).
  2. Choose Property value select parameter. Its configuration panel opens on the right side of the screen.

  3. In the configuration panel, choose Route Flights as the Object Set and Carrier Name as the Property Type (you want to examine flight times on this route, and your Route Flights object set contains this property).

  4. In the card editor panel on the right, set the Prompt value to Carrier.

  5. Test your parameter card by clicking into it in the main canvas, which should surface a list of carriers on all flights on this route.
