5 - Creating a Time Series from an Object-Backed Bar Chart

This content is also available at learn.palantir.com ↗ and is presented here for accessibility purposes.

📖 Task Introduction

Now that you have prepared a Line Chart based on Flight Sensor Readings of Wind Speed, in this task, you'll create a Time Series based on this derived data. Derived Time Series can be powerful tools in your analysis, as the resulting Time Series dynamically update when changes are made to the upstream Object Set on which it depends, such as by filtering or making selections on plots. Time Series charts can only be created when 1) the x-axis groups by time and 2) displays only one data series.

🔨 Task Instructions

  1. With your Line Chart card selected, click the Time series button category at the bottom of the card.

  2. Choose Categorical plot time series in the menu.

  3. Rename your board [Wind Speed] Time Series Chart

  4. On the top right of your board, there is Plots legend rectangle, click on the Settings gear icon (Configure plot). It opens a configuration where you can rename your time series from Categorical plot time series to [Wind Speed] Time Series

  5. You now have created a time series chart showcasing Flight Sensor Readings of Wind Speed data.

If you used an alternative data source that was already published in a time series format in the ontology, you'd likely see it as a similar chart immediately after importing it to Quiver.
