16 - Defining Geospatial Data

This content is also available at learn.palantir.com ↗ and is presented here for accessibility purposes.

Foundry works with two main types of geospatial data: raster and vector. Geospatial data with a temporal component is known as geotemporal data. Click on those two data types for a short preview and description of each.

Geospatial information can be stored in tabular and Ontology forms, and as a result, the analysis applications we’ve mentioned thus far—Contour, Code Workbook, Quiver, and Object Explorer (among others)—are all capable of generating geospatial analysis and visualizations. We’ll discuss common workflows and application usage in a later task.

In this exercise, we'll review some examples of geospatial data in Foundry that include:

  • Point data represented as a latitude/longitude column (tabular) or property (object), also known as a geohash.
  • GeoJSON column (tabular) or property (object) representing polygons or lines.
