Unix Systems Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot complex UNIX/Linux issues in production/colo, lab, and customer environments
  • Develop and maintain scripts to automate tasks and deployment
  • Deploy and scale production systems with minimal downtime
  • Secure/harden operating systems against compromise
  • Implement and administer network infrastructure
  • Work closely with release engineering to script and maintain SCM and build environment
  • Assist in network/UNIX infrastructure design
  • Develop creative solutions to complex technological challenges

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience with UNIX/Linux system administration (CentOS or RHEL preferred)
  • Superior knowledge of UNIX
  • Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP and networking
  • Strong UNIX system programming using a shell and a higher level language
  • Strong and current working knowledge of modern x64-based server hardware
  • Experience building Linux kernels and troubleshooting kernel issues
  • Experience with securing public websites
  • Experience administering and managing collocated servers
  • Willing to participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation
  • Experience configuring systems for use with one of the major database packages
  • Knowledge of L2/L3 network infrastructure including Cisco switches and routers
  • Strong organization and documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Strong knowledge in various systems disciplines (dns, ldap, smtp, ssh/ssl, ntp, package managers, tcp/ip internals, volume managers/filesystems, etc)

Preferred

  • BS/MS in Computer Science
  • TS/SCI security clearance or willingness to get cleared
  • Experience with open source monitoring and alerting systems (Nagios, Cacti, etc)
  • Experience with VMware based server virtualization
  • Experience with systems management tools such as puppet or cfengine
  • Experience with IDS and IPS systems
